Canada Thistle..... That pesky weed that grows all over and is super annoying to weed wack ? Dont kill it! Eat it!
This wonderful plant is highly nutritious ! the roots, the thick stem, the leaves and even the flowers have their very own nutritional profile! There are several types of thistle, including Canada thistle, Bull thistle, Milk thistle, all highly nutritious. These plants are also a very good survival food, as it is widely available, and it contains water inside the thick stems. Due to the regulations set out by the government, i cannot place any information regarding the medicinal uses of herbs. I encourage you to do your own research to learn more! Other uses for the dried herbs ( this is the main purpose for Canada thistle in my own kitchen) is adding it to soups stews, and pot roasts. The stem can be chopped up like celery, the flowers and loose leafe thrown right into the pot!
If you are interested in learning how to harvest this plant, there are many videos online that show you how to do it safely and effectively. There are alot of prickly thorns and thistles all over the plant so care must be taken!

To get the best results from my herbal teas, i boil a medium sized pot of water on the stove, once it comes to a rolling boil, i drop my desired amount of herbs in the water. i turn the heat right down and let it steep for an hour , sometimes longer. The longer you let it steep , the more gets extracted from the plant! Then i strain it through a fine strainer into a large jug and i drink this throughout my day. For those who would prefer to brew a cup at a time, bring your kettle to a boil, pour the hot water into a heatsafe mug, and steep 1 to 2 teaspoons of loose herbal tea. You can use a reusable tea bag, or get those single use ones from amazon. Enjoy!
